Announcing the first People’s Powerhouse local events

At the end of July we announced that in partnership with Power to Change organisations had the opportunity to host a local People’s Powerhouse event in the run up to our This is the North Convention on the 19 November in Sunderland.

We opened for submissions and left it to organisations to decide what they would like to do during their event as long as it supported the foundations in our charter. Organisations were also able to apply for up to £500 of funding from us to support their event.

We are delighted to announce that during our first round of applications we have partnered with seven organisations from across the North who will all be hosting their own local This is the North event. Some of these events will also include opportunities for others within our network to attend and get involved in the conversation.

This section provides some information about the organisations, events and how you may be able to get involved.  Just click on any of the tabs for full details.

Scarborough co-working club – Scarborough Works

scarboroughThe Scarborough co-working club has been running online for three months. This event will be the first real-world co-working session as Scarborough Works aims to create a regular way for freelance people to work together and build a community.

In Scarborough, too much work is seasonal and low-paid.

Scarborough Works uses the power of collaboration and co-working to solve some of these complex challenges. By creating a new space for people working on big ideas for themselves and making direct connections to funders and decision-makers, Scarborough Works aims to create more fairness for regional people in how things are done and build more trust between decision makers and people.

During the event the People’s Powerhouse will share what we believe are the foundations for building a North that works for more people and more places. There will be the opportunity for local community groups, community businesses and social enterprises to network and share ideas on the future of Scarborough.

Date: 30 October 2019

Venue: Koda Coffee

If you are based in Scarborough and would like to know more about the event please contact Paul Drury-Bradley - paul@cultureandsocialimpact.co.uk
