We value what our Map Members say!

We want an interconnected North – a place where Northern communities, campaigning organisations, individuals, civic bodies, and people-powered businesses can support each other to maximise our social impact.

Whether you’re a movement of change-makers, a company working for the social good, or have an ongoing project that deserves to be heard about, our Community Map is the platform to shout about it.

You have a voice to make change

Over the last month we have reached out to our network for feedback on how we can develop the map meet-ups and here is what was said:

  • 70% of the map members say they use the informal meetings for networking.
  • 80% said they want to meet other map members online from their area.
    • There was also a good number who said they wanted to meet in person with people from their area as well as an online meet with all the Northerners doing similar to them.
  • 80% of map members say they want a theme to the meetings.

We also received helpful comments such as:

  • Maybe some shared outcomes i.e. leading to a big meet-up or to a proposal/motion we all put in to govt etc. Acting not solely within our own interest or group but for mutually shared goals… where no one group gets the credit, but we all pull together.
  • Does the Peoples Powerhouse have the resources to organise a citizens” or people’s assembly across the North to identify and address the most pressing social and ecological problems of the North?
  • At this stage it is unclear to me the benefits of loose direct networking across such a large area.

Together, this information has sparked some internal conversations about our Map Meetings and what purpose it has that benefits all who are on it now – and for future participation.

One of our strategic objectives is to work collaboratively in the North with partners, citizens, and activists to showcase and develop solutions that enable us to live a good life. We feel that map sits within this and to enable us the time and space to consider what this means we are temporarily pausing our map meet-ups.

Our team will spend September and October considering how we can work as a collective, to achieve our vision and then re-launch the Map Meetings at the Convention (late Nov – Early Dec date TBC!).
